Douglas PUD recognizes eleven paid holidays, including three floating holidays.


WHO GET’S holiday pay?

You - if you are a regular full-time, part-time, or limited assignment employee. Temporary and on-call employees may receive holiday pay if assigned to work both the eight hour shift before and after the holiday. Temporary and on-call employees do not earn floating holidays.

Holiday pay typically means eight hours. Holiday pay for alternate work schedules are addressed in the collective bargaining agreement. Holiday pay differs for employees who work twelve hour rotating shifts as described in the collective bargaining agreement.


What are the observed holidays?

Unless you are required to work a regularly scheduled shift, you get to observe the following holidays by taking the day off with pay (eight hours paid):

  • New Year’s Day

  • President’s Day

  • Memorial Day

  • Independence Day

  • Labor Day

  • Veterans’ Day

  • Thanksgiving Day

  • Christmas Day


What happens when the holiday falls on a weekend?

If a holiday falls on a Sunday, you get to observe the holiday on the following Monday. When a holiday falls on Saturday, you get to observe the holiday on the Friday prior to the holiday.

When do I earn floating holidays?

You earn floating holidays annually, with the first pay period of the year.

New hires earn floating holidays 30 days following the date of hire, if hired before October 1.


when can I take floating holidays?

You can take your paid floating holidays anytime during the calendar year to observe holidays that are close to your heart or if you wish to take a day off for other occasions. You must take your floating holidays by the end of the payroll year or you will forfeit your paid floating holidays. Floating holidays, will be used to cover eight hours of scheduled work time for each floating holiday taken.
